“Queensbridge is home, first and foremost.” :: This afternoon I had the pleasure of attending a community screening of the documentary film “Voices of Queensbridge” at the Jacob Riis Settlement. A collaboration between Queensbridge residents and LaGuardia Community College, the film challenges notions about public housing and celebrates the history and sense of community at Queensbridge, the largest public housing development in the United States. My favorite quote from the film: “Everyone here is a library. When someone passes, we lose that library”, unless we can record it. Oh, and the dance performance from the Senior Shakers was the icing on today’s cake! :: I am thrilled I will get to work more with this community on an upcoming photography and public art collaboration between Queensbridge, the Jacob Riis Settlement, and the Josephine Herrick Project. Stay tuned! :: :: #community #photography #Queensbridge #art #history#publicart #documentary
