June 19 – Monday’s storms made for some brilliant sunsets. Not a bad way to start the week.

The second best thing about getting up at 5am to take your friend to the airport (and then bailing and calling her a cab) is getting to see this sunrise. The best thing is…going back to bed.
See, what had happened was…
June 23 – I was lucky to spend the weekend at Peace Village Retreat Center in the beautiful Catskills for the Images and Voices of Hope (IVOH) Media Summit. IVOH exports how journalism and media can be a force for positive change in the world.
The wonderful kitchen volunteers at Peace Village made us ice-cream sundaes!
IVOH Media Summit attendees engage in a dialogue with Jennifer Crandall, the artist and filmmaker behind the Whitman Alabama project. As an artist-in-residence at the Alabama Media Group, Crandall has spent the past two years criss-crossing the state of Alabama, meeting a diverse array of Alabamians, filming them as they read verses from Walt Whitman’s Song of Myself. Crandall hopes the project amplifies the voices of Alabama residents while unifying a splintering nation.
Images and Voices of Hope explores the nature of “restorative narratives” – journalistic narratives that focus on the hope and resiliency in the midst and aftermath of trauma, looking towards a brighter future.

June 25 – Last day at the IVOH Summit and I finally had a chance to squeeze in some hiking in the Catskills.
Kaaterskill Falls trail head
Kaaterskill Falls includes two drops (upper and lower) falling a total of 230 feet and is said to be the highest waterfall in New York state.

Nothing like an impromptu trip to Woodstock with someone who actually WENT to Woodstock in 1969. Elisa is one of the many incredible journalists I met this weekend at the IVOH Media Summit.
